A Combination Bassinet Pram and Stroller, Can Save Time and Money

There are many decisions to make when expecting your first baby and shopping for layette items and equipment. You can save a lot of time and money by thinking about long-term needs before purchasing bassinets or transports such as strollers and prams.

First know the differences between the three items and the specific purpose for which each is intended.

A bassinet is a bed intended for an infants ' use from birth until about the age of four months. It is designed to be cozy and snug and provide a warm, secure environment for a newborn.

There are two basic types of bassinets and these are stationary and portable. The stationary bassinet is usually supported on a stand and, although usually light weight, is intended to remain in one place. A portable bassinet ismore like a large basket with a handle and can be used as a baby carrier as well.

These portable bassinets are sometimes called "Moses" bassinets referring to the basket in which the biblical Moses was placed.

Prams, as they are often called in the northeastern United States and Europe, is a movable carriage on wheels in which the infant is lying down and facing the pusher. Prams usually have movable partial covers to protect infants from sun or other weather conditions. A pram is generally used from birth until four to six months of age.

A stroller is a chair-like four-wheeled transport for infants too large for the use of a pram and can be used up until the age of four or so, depending on the age of the child.

While each of these items has a specific purpose, youcan purchase a combination pram/stroller which can be used as a bassinet for your infant.

Such an item can be a great value because it can be used from birth until the child is beyond toddler size. And instead of laying out money for good quality pram and stroller, bassinet, you can invest in an excellent quality combination unit which will last beyond the needs of your first child and be used for future children.

It's a good idea to try and consider what your needs will be as the baby ages and grows and you convert the transport. Cup and bottle holders and storage racks will be useful but make certain you are getting good quality strollers and prams to suit your needs.
